An Evening with John Maus + Intl Tapes

International Tapes DJs Luke Carrell (aka Simian Gibbons), Coco Zoabi, and Mr. Intl himself set Santos on fire last week while DJing at Prince Rama. This Monday, Intl Tapes will be pressing play all night long between performances from John Maus, Gary War, and Holy Shit. In case you haven't heard, Monday's like the new Thursday, so there's no reason not to rage on this night of hypnagogic OGs.

If you haven't seen J Maus(cis) before, you simply must. I haven't seen anyone put more into a performance than this man; the dude goes crazy and practically has a breakdown on stage. Gary War have also be killing it recently too, their Police Water EP on Sacred Bones is top knotch and totally flew under the radar last year. It's the type of album that, years from now, could be looked back on as a cult classic. But don't be surprised if you see something really special from San Francisco's Holy Shit later this year, the Myspace® page alludes to being signed to True Panther (Teengirl Fantasy, Ty Segall, Outer Limits Recordings), Gloriette Records (Nite Jewel, Ariel Pink), and Japanese label Big Love (Salem, Puro Instinct, The Samps). Plus, for all of you fashion nuts out there, Holy Shit has the most amazing t-shirts.

But everyone knows that no party is a party without an afterparty, which will star DJ blog duo Weird Magic, who's kept it goin' all night long with Oneohtrix Point Never, Gatekeeper, and Greatest Hits in the past. It's gonna be intense. --Ric Leichtung, International Tapes

Between this awe-inspiring Mane Mane video by Aaron Katsnelson and that Eleanoora Rosenbloom post from a while back, I'm beginning to think that "skinnyscreen" is the new widescreen. This isn't the first time we've been wowed by Katsnelson's work; he's also made some stunning videos for the likes of Magic Mountain and John Maus, plus some great mixes for AZ as one half of the unstoppable duo known as Weird Magic. "Twinkle Sr" is as bizarre as it is mesmerizing; don't be surprised if you become completely entranced by the kaleidoscopic sea of echoing heads, dancing to the the ebb and flow of Mane Mane's groove. Press full screen and get wet. --Ric Leichtung, International Tapes

Certainly streaming through the same screensaver Pipes as Blondes or Teengirl FantasyMagick Mountain's foray into his own idyllic clubland is lit with fragments of anonymous dance anthems, ultra-low bass, and shuffled hi-hats, looping into a hypnotic colour downpour that blurs right into the 3-D visuals by Weird Magic's Aaron Katsnelson. (Rose Quartz co-premiere)

Look for future Magick Mountain releases on The Pop Manifesto

At the end of August, we premiered our new Altered Zones mix series. The first volume stitched together some of our favorite tracks from the last full month of summer, and we were beyond stoked that you guys gave it enough props for it to ride high at the top of our 'Most Liked' category for the full 7-day stretch.

We did that first mix in like four hours at the mercy of Garageband, so we thought we'd step it up a bit for volume two, and put the project in the capable hands of Brooklyn's finest hi-technitions: the super-rad artist/blog duo Weird Magic. Suffice to say, if you dug the last one, September's puts in overtime. Check the tracklist and download that shit right here:
