Tres Warren of Psychic Ills says:
When you're talking about experimental film, the first people that come to your mind probably don't have anything to do with The Muppets, right? In that case, check out Jim Henson goofin' off on "The Tonight Show." Pretty far out for TV-- especially with the Raymond Scott music. There's a better version of just the piece on Youtube, but at Psychic Ills headquarters, we like the Johnny Carson context.
Psychic Ills just announced that their fifth album, Hazed Dream, will be put out by Sacred Bones this October. While the New York band's been laying low lately, excellent efforts like Dins and Early Violence from The Social Registry keep the band not far from mind. Hazed Dream is the first proper full-length in three years, but if that's not enough to get your mouth watering, the album was recorded live to tape by Mitch Rackin of Gang Gang Dance and Black Dice. "Mind Daze" and the album trailer below show a catchier, but still plenty drugged-out, side of the Ills. Guitarist Tres Warren shed some light on the LP, saying that "the music came out the old fashioned way... a way that had been avoided for a while... this album lives in a sunny place. A half memory. A hazed dream." --Ric Leichtung, Altered Zones via The Fader

NYC Label RVNG Intl. recently kicked off the FRKWYS 12" series, which pairs legends of forever with heroes of the now-- Chris Carter and Cosey Fanni Tutti with Excepter, for example, or ARP with Anthony Moore. On their latest release, our fave dark raga wave cowboys Psychic Ills get remixed by Hans Joachim Irmler from Faust, Gibby Haynes from Butthole Surfers, and techno overlord Juan Atkins. Dream team or what?
Here you have Mr. Atkins’ re-engineering of "Mantis". Imagine The Holy Mountain biting the gun metal sky in the distance, past desolate provinces where mutant rastafaris reenact the fall of Zion with bass guitars as crude as siege engines. Slip into Rex Mecha and start your pilgrimage across this anti-neon reticle. If Public Image Ltd. had made the soundtrack for Mad Max 2: The Road Warrior, it would have totally sounded like this.

FRKWYS Vol. 4: Psychic Ills 12" is out September 7th via RVNG Intl.
