We recently posted an unlikely collaboration between Laurel Halo, Mogwai's Stuart Braithwaite, and Glaswegian digitital artist Tom Scholefield, who has spent the past few years churning out ectoplasmic videos and album art work for artists like Oneohtrix Point Never and Jaime Lidell-- and labels like Warp, DFA, and No Fun Productions-- under the Konx-Om-Pax moniker. Komx-Om-Pax recently went on a UK/Ireland tour with Mogwai in the form of an electronic solo project, and has three, artfully packaged LP self-releases planned for this year-- the first of which, Light Extension, features "Halo Ritual," the Halo-Briathwaite track. Scholefield recently sent in an 18-track mix full of avant-classical, noise, and weido rock goodness, along with a description, below. -- Emilie Friedlander, Altered Zones
"The tracks in the mix mostly come from the sets I was playing supporting Mogwai on their UK/Ireland tour a few months back. Tracks the guys gave me hanging around before shows; we did a bit of music swapping/buying during the day. So from kinda classically inspired stuff, through noise, stoner rock and old British metal and darker electro sounds. A proper mixture of stuff but all kinda epic and ritualistic sounding in a way."

You may know Konx-Om-Pax as the title of a 1907 essay compilation by British occultist Aleister Crowley; it's also the nom de plume of Glasgow digitital artist Tom Scholefield, who has done videos and album art work for the likes of Oneohtrix Point Never, Laurel Halo, and Jaime Lidell, and helped define the visual aesthetics of Warp, DFA, No Fun Productions, Universal Everything, and Optimo Espacio. Scholefield recently released a debut LP of his own electronic sound experiments, appropriately dubbed Light Extension (a rough translation of "Konx Om Pax") and featuring this unlikely, loop-based collaboration between himself, Halo, and Mogwai guitarist Stuart Braithwaite. Visit The Wire to stream a second track from the album, which is the first of three limited edition releases planned for this year, and comes lovingly pacakaged with art by Scholefield and Edwin Pickstone via Scholefield's own Display Copy imprint.
