This latest mix from Los Angeles' Alex Gray is like trying to find your way in the desert after the hallucinations and the dehydration have fully taken hold. The palette here reflects a steady diet of obscure world psychedelia, and DJ Screw. While those who have been paying attention to the Deep Magic and Sun Araw member will find much of what they have come to expect and love, there are some pretty surprising sections of minimal rhythm. And it's these sorts of ruptures make Heat Wave, his solo project, one collage-art journey worth keeping an ear out for. --Samantha Cornwell, Visitation Rites
