Between hosting CMJ showcases with Impose, Art Fag, Gorilla Vs. Bear, and Yours Truly, DIY do-gooders at Brooklyn's Shea Stadium had the strongest line-ups across the board during the 5-day festival. After blowing minds with their massive, blissfully noisy debut single in 2010, Denver's Gauntlet Hair returns with the first single from their self-titled debut full-length, which drops this fall on Dead Oceans. The label calls the shimmering, ebbing/flowing "Top Bunk" a "cooled-out, coastal slowgrind," which is definitely accurate in relation to the rest of the duo's evolved debut collection of cavernous, thunderously loud, danceable avant-pop jams. Gauntlet Hair drops October 18th on Dead Oceans. --Chris Cantalini, Gorilla Vs Bear
Denver, Colorado's own Rhinoceropolis residents Andy R. and Craig Nice are Gauntlet Hair. Joining other hyped Denveranians Pictureplane, Tennis, and Tjutjuna, Gauntlet Hair stands out, reminiscent of Health or Liars with ear-immersing production and vast washes of percussive squelching guitar-work just on the verge of feeding back.
