So I've been on layover at Logan Airport for many hours now, and I see that it's now 3AM. I've been slowly nursing what could be the worst Pepsi I've ever had in my life, which tastes mildly flat, despite being bottled. Things really couldn't get any worse for me than they are right now.

Until I get an email in my box from the mysterious CSLSX collective bro, operating under the pseudonym Harvey Culture. I see the song title, "Paula Abdul Drinking a Pepsi, October 17th, 1987", and I feel a tickle of excitement in light of my most recent Pepsi experience. I'm immediately drawn in by the buried freestyle '80s freestyle pop vocal, its swelling pads-- reminiscent of Magick Mountain's "One For My Ego"--, and wooed by a monophonic synth reminding me of the Raymond Scott sample Teengirl Fantasy use in "Portofino". I begin to yearn for a time when I was 8 years old, and perceived Pepsi as a culturally relevant beverage, communicating a bold lifestyle choice in rebellion against Coca-Cola. Crisp, classy, and brassy, CSLSX understands my unquenchable thirst for nostalgia and what I crave as a mass consumer of pop culture. --Ric Leichtung, International Tapes

The latest video/track from mysterious Philadelphia collective CSLSX makes me wonder what it would have been like to live in the swinging '70s as a free-loving man about town, ready to throw caution to the wind if caution even existed back then. It flickers and flashes back to a ritualistic sexcapade that probably seemed like a good idea until reality came shining through the up-turned blinds with the inevitable arrival of morning. Chopped up into pieces on a plastic and paper scratched mirror, "We Ought To Be Together" is a future/retro funk jam worthy of a trip back in time. (via Yours Truly)
