Cankun: "Striking Bicycles"

With Archers by the Sea on hiatus, Margerid, France's Vincent Caylet has shifted his focus to his first release as Cankun and has a cassette due out this Spring on Not Not Fun. According to Caylett, Cankun's inspiration draws from "collages, 60's urban architecture, coral sand beaches and piña coladas." The result is layers of droning guitar, synths, and vocal chants that construct vast worlds of lush topography and underwater cities, hypnotizing the listener. "Striking Bicycle" opens with an almost epic swell, as if it were the initial discovery of a vast new world, and then takes you on a slow, guided tour of its varietous landscapes. He's not even asking you to keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle, so go ahead and give it a spin. --Jheri Evans, Get Off The Coast
