The shutter of a vintage polaroid lens is the first sound that one hears on How To Dress Well's "Lovers Start", a cut from their brilliant 2010 LP Love Remains. Unsuprisingly then, the grainy sound quality and ephereal vocals evoke that bittersweet relationship with character and memory-defining embols of the past.
If London producer DrumCunt's name didn't give away any immediate hints, his 'refix' of Lovers Start released today on Tri Angle Records' SoundCloud does not want to hang around to patiently humor your nostalgic impulses. His remix goes straight for the jugular. The dreamy tendencies of the original are shoved aside, as the shuddering drag-and-release of dubstep rhythms carry the track. Where HTDW aim for rich textures and warmth, DrumCunt's version sounds metallic. The atmospherics are dense and thick-- exactly what you want when you put aside all that daydreaming of the past, and hit the dancefloor. --Daniel Gottlieb
