Knoxville, TN ruffians COOLRUNNINGS continuously blow me away with the sheer range of their repertoire, each song they release eclipsing the last. The aptly named "Thunderbirds" ventures into crunchy, dark-horse tones with a trotting back beat and a post-punk bellow reminiscent of early Comsat Angels. Although dark, there is a movie-like, triumph-of-the-underdog feel to this track; I would even go so far as to say that it's a "I Need A Hero" for the bedroom-recording era. (via Weekly Tape Deck)
