Chromagain: "Wake Up" (1985)

Dauntless vinyl hunters and YouTube scavengers rejoice: Torino, Italy’s Chromagain are bringing back a little darkness from 1985 with the re-release Any Colour We Liked.

“Wake Up” finds the band making a purposeful incursion into more danceable pop. The delicate yet danceable keyboard parts, crooning vocals, and digital swells carefully vie against each other in the spaces between booming 808 beats. Its dimly tinted, minimalistic approach bows to Factory Records production and winks at the europop of the day. This track would be be right at home on a mixtape beside Eleven Pond or Chromagain’s former labelmates Weimar Gesang. --Luke Carrell, International Tapes
