Alongside fellow West Coast stoner doom progenitors like Sunn O)), The Melvins, and Sleep/Om, Seattle's Earth has been stripping metal down to its skeletal rudiments and stretching it out like a rubber band for over two decades now. Angels of Darkness, Demons of Light 1, their first LP in three years, comes out on February 22nd on Los Angeles' Southern Lord Records, long established as the sub-genre's flagship imprint. For a teaser, check out "Descent to the Zenith", which went up on Raven Sings The Blues this morning. According to Raven, the band cites Saharan blues-rock collective Tinariwen and '70s British folk outfit Pentangle as central touchstones for the release. Sounds a lot more like straight-up, minimalist rock to us, but we're definitely ready to ride these beefy guitar overtones straight into Saturday.
