Remember when I reminded you how much Bollywood you’re missing in your life? International Tapes found this cassette in a disgusting box with a lot of questionable stains on it at a garage sale in the Cypress Hills of Brooklyn, probably close to where blog brother Friendship Bracelet lives. Nonetheless, we're thrilled to host College Girl/Amiri Garibi, the double soundtrack for the eponymous Hindi films. It’s a double penetration of Bollywood.
The tape, in all its tambourine-shaking, henna-tattooed-foot-stomping, Hindi-Hollywood glory, takes us through the stories of the films. But because of our language barrier, listening to it is a little bit like watching a telenovela. You don’t understand what's happening, except that the good looking heterosexual leads are probably in love, and probably encounter some obstacles like strict Hindi fathers, accidental pregnancies, or maybe a once in a lifetime opportunity to participate in the Indian version of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” (only to be arrested on suspicion of cheating). Then they overcome those obstacles to be together forever. Despite being in the dark, you know you’re staying home on all Sunday night to watch it anyway. And you’ll totally cry all the way through it. That’s what College Girl is, but with a title that gives you awesome Google search results. Fair warning: "Bhool Bhulaiyya..." ends up in total tape warble halfway through. Kind of amazing. (via International Tapes)
