Jeff Walls of Campfires says:
I first heard Sibylle Baier as I was driving home late one night in November, listening to a mixtape a friend had made. I fell into a trance and almost crashed my car. Baier, a German-born singer-songwriter active primarily in the early '70s, wrote haunting, beautiful songs and recorded them at home directly to reel-to-reel tape, allowing for an astonishing level of intimacy. She seemed to have no interest in pursuing fame or recognition for her work, which is kind of awesome. This honesty of motivation, I think, matches the honesty of her music. Her son compiled her recordings, distributing them to family and friends. A copy ended up with J. Mascis, and the songs saw release as Colour Green on Orange Twin Records in 2006. Winter is brutal, but having music like this to soundtrack the snowfall helps get you through.
