With last year's Shangaan Electro comp, Honest Jon's Records brought us inside the busy studio of Nozinja, a South African artist, composer, and producer pioneering an infectiously rhythmic hybrid of electronica and traditional Shangaan music in his nativeĀ Soweto. This new missive from the London imprintĀ brings us some electro-gospel from a Limpopo pastor by the name of Foster Manganyi, rooted in a comparable blend of marimba beats, samples, and mantric vocal lines. "Ndzi Teke Riendzo", the album's deeply bittersweet title track, rides a hypnotic call-and-response between Manganyi and an entourage of dancer-vocalists.
Ndzi Teke Riendzo No.1 is available from Honest Jon's in CD, LP, and digital formats
