Dolphins Into The Future is one of the many monikers of Belgian musician and "Cetacean Nationalist" Lieven Martens. After spending two months in Hawaii's Kealakekua Bay studying dolphin behavior, Martens released a a 12" a few months ago on Kraak Records. Ke Ala Ke Kua translates an encounter with a group of spinner dolphins and humpback whales into a dreamy, triptych sound collage of water, tapes, sax, synths, and site-specific field recordings. Listening to the title track, I'm immediately transported onto the serene shores of the Pacific Ocean, drifting in and out of sleep under banyan trees as the sound of the waves mingles with the calls of tropical birds and sea mammals. --Laura Brown, International Tapes
