Koes Bersaudara, later known as Koes Plus, was the band of the brothers Koeswoyo, active from the '60s-'70s. Though to many Western ears the Koes are simply the sound of globalized Beatlemania, Rolling Stone Indonesia recognize them as superstars in their own right, listing 6 albums and 10 songs in each of their greatest albums and songs lists. Fan favorite "The Land of Evergreen" is one of four songs the Koes recorded in English. It had never seen an official release until world music archivists Sublime Frequencies put it on the Koes Bersaudara 1967 CD compilation with two of their more treasured albums, To the so-called "The Guilties" and Djadikan Aku Domba Mu. --Ric Leichtung, International Tapes
