CFCF (Michael Silver) released his The River 12” back in October. Sadly absent from the release, this alternate version of "It Was Never Meant To Be This Way" jettisons all but the snaking piano line and haunted, reverb-drenched vocal drones of the original. The River EP was inspired by Werner Herzog’s fever dream of a movie, Fitzcarraldo, along with Popul Vuh’s towering score. While the tracks on the EP tackle the film’s most seething moments, the "Piano Version" captures the fleeting calm behind Kinski's eyes as his misguided interpretation of civilisation is consumed by the jungle. Despite its initial eeriness, its ethereal tone somehow soothes. (via 20 Jazz Funk Greats)
