We've been bumping Manchester beatmaker Star Slinger's futurist hip-hop cuts since Cameron at The Road Goes Ever On tipped us off to "Close to Me", his non-Cure-related collaboration with Knoxville, TN producer Teams, way back in June. But their follow-up, "Say Please", sealed it up. Needless to say, we expect great things from their split 12" they're putting together for Mexican Summer. But what's really sweet about these dudes is how they're as solid apart as they are together: Last month, Star Slinger's "Helicopter" remix made Deerhunter into chipmunk punk, and now he's flipped Cocteau Twins' "Heaven or Las Vegas" (all-time faves!) into a blissed-out low-rider anthem. We are so happy right now. --Ric Leichtung, Altered Zones
