This new clip from Los Angeles' Robedoor, directed by Amanda Brown of LA Vampires and video artist Ben Shearn, riffs affectionately on the legacy of ’90s rock. The noisy, distorted production values, topped off with muffled, indecipherable vocals, brings me to the imaginary Olympia, Washington basement of my adolescent daydreams. The imagery, which comes rapidly, includes pagan artifacts, notebook doodlings, body scribbles, and nighttime street scenes, intercut with up-close and personal footage of the band rocking out. The result will be both cringe-worthy and touching to anyone who ever self-identified as an alt-rock kid in the era of STP and Pearl Jam. But Robedoor's sound is not full-on throwback; it brings the stringy-haired angst of the ’90s into the sonic palette of today's psychedelic rock. (via Visitation Rites)
