A few weeks ago Visitation Rites highlighted the morose "Every Second Darker" from No Demons Here, the solo project of Luka Usmiani, bassist of choice for the legions of bands emerging from Ridgewood, NJ including Big Troubles and Fluffy Lumbers. No Demons Here is a departure from the Ridgewood sound: no flange, no chorus, no jamming, no knowing nods to cult guitar-goof rock. Instead the sound is tortured, detuned, and trapped in a reverb chamber with tall walls of melodic feedback, saturated guitars, and trudging drums, all in a delicious deadpan delivery. --Ric Leichtung, Altered Zones
