Police Academy 6 & Lester Brown: "Saved"

If, as they claim on their MySpace, Police Academy 6 are truly a "six-piece all-female lesbian jazz-funk group active in the 70s", this gaggle of faceless elder stateswomen gets kudos for being remarkably hip to chillwave aesthetics. (Mythologically speaking, could they possibly be the mothers of the ButterxFace girls?) "Saved", a collaboration with Toronto's Lester Brown, crosses House synth pulses with infectious drum programming and the throaty imperfection of Lester's tenor. The mix strikes occasional notes of shrill seriousness, bizarre enough to (almost) throw the idiom off-kilter.
