Robert Millis is a Seattle-based musician and filmmaker, most widely known as one half of the long-running experimental duo Climax Golden Twins, with Jeffrey Taylor. The group’s association with fellow Seattle mind-expanders the brothers Bishop (Richard and Alan, of the sadly departed Sun City Girls) has intersected with Millis’ career as a documentary filmmaker. In 2005’s Ghost of Isan, Millis documented the Thai festival Phi Ta Khon with help from Richard Bishop. His latest film, This World Is Unreal Like a Snake in a Rope, was shot entirely in the Southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, capturing musical performances, festivals, street processions, and snatches of all aspects of life. Millis is currently on tour with both films, which are being presented by Alan Bishop and Hisham Mayet’s renowned Sublime Frequencies label. (via Visitation Rites)
