Dillon James Rego is the sole constant in noise/rock/drone project Alaskas, ranging from purposefully crafted pop songs to loosely constructed ambience. Its defining characteristic is Rego’s voice, a distinctive yelp that he pushes into a cathartic wail on some tracks, a plaintive moan on others. “The Truths of Tomorrow”, from his upcoming D.I.V.A. LP, is a casual epic constructed from vocal loops and waves of feedback. In the song's ten-minute run-time, these elements transform from a tentative hum to something a lot more sinister. But the threat of a full-on noise freakout never comes to fruition, resulting in a convincing demonstration of “less is more”. (via Visitation Rites)
