Ripley Johnson from Moon Duo & Wooden Shjips hipped us to Philly's Purling Hiss last July in a guest post for Altered Zones, describing their sound as one with "nothing to lose and everything to prove"-- which probably couldn't be more spot-on. On "Limerence/Space Roots", a track from their new Hissteria LP, Birds of Maya's Mike Pollize seems to breeze through every single guitar stunt the Stooges ever put to tape, careering through classic Sabbath territory up to the fatal cliff of Quadrophenia and slamming down on the gas. Purists beware: Purling Hiss will combine all the rock memories you love and all the rock memories you hate into one, long, cosmos-shattering howl.
