Swimsuit: "Sunlight"

Ypsilanti, Michigan surf outfit Swimsuit is a new project featuring Fred Thomas of City Center and Shelley Salant, formerly of Tyvek. "Sunlight" is an extremely solid, three-hook pop song that plays with your expectations. It hits you like a ton of bricks in the first 10 seconds with a seagull-soaring guitar hook. There are lot of potentially great songs poisoned time and time again by exposing their best parts right off the bat, bludgeoning listeners with it over and over again-- but Swimsuit holds back. Instead, they hit us with the infectious lyrics "sunlight hurts, sunlight burns", words that have been ingrained on the back of my skull for months, leaving me anxiously awaiting a proper full-length. --Ric Leichtung, International Tapes
