Nathan Young: "Für Andrea"

The population crossed into 7 billion last week, so inevitably there will be two Youngs sharing a first name out there. Earlier today, we briefly, mistakenly posted this track from Nathan Young as a new track from Nate Young's NNA Tapes debut. That doesn't make me like this track from the frequent Chicago collaborator-- with Seth Sher of Ga'an/Psychic Steel, Brett Naucke of Catholic Tapes, the bands Lazer Crystal and Golden Birthday--any less. Right out the gate of "Für Andrea," Young treats us to delayed rim knocks and handclaps, an echoed lockstep that ducks out early on. The grid's construction proves necessary when the modal Reichian synths throb to the surface. By the time the key rolls to narcotic harmonies, ping-pong pulses and softened saw waves round the ode out, offering the first impression of an artist I'm stoked to have stumbled upon. --Dale W.
