Astral Social Club: "Wishaw"

One of the great things about being a fan of Neil Campbell's Astral Social Club is that you never have to wait long between recordings; likewise, you will never be disappointed by the result. Already a slew of ASC/Campbell releases pepper the year of 2011, not to mention last year's superb collaboration with High Wolf as Iibiis Rooge. ASC has again teamed up with Dekorder to release a new LP, Generator Breaker. "Balloom" and "Wishaw" run back-to-back on the LP, and display different sides of Campbell's whimsical remodelling of techno and drone. The first is the more restrained, carving intricate melodies into the enveloping throb of synthesizers. "Wishaw," on the other hand, is almost a techno anti-anthem. It begins on a peak, and Campbell elongates this ecstatic high throughout the entire 7-minutes while billowing drones and murky drum kicks seem to propel us to a new realm altogether. -- Daniel Gottlieb, Altered Zones
