Comfortably settled into his new home of Los Angeles, Australian émigré Tom Hall of AXXONN has begun releasing work under his own name. The terms drone and soundscape are frequently used in describing music that resembles Hall’s, though his work’s dynamic range and intensity largely set it apart from most common examples of ambient music, evokoing more visceral experiences. The video for “4 Seconds of Emotion” compresses the co-existent feelings of freedom and confinement of a thousand freeway commutes into just over eight minutes of hallucinatory fugue. --Luke Carrell, International Tapes
