As a simple vocal melody forces its way through a labyrinth of formant shifts and pitch distortions in the opening moments of Hrdvsion's "I Can't Exist," one might be forgiven for thinking they were listening to a new track by Burial, Balam Acab, or another purveyor of "ghost vocals" that have proved so popular these last few years. But when the rock-ish techno beat kicks in, there can be no doubt that Hrdvsion's take on this idea is headed in an entirely different direction. By the time the bassline and soaring synth pads complete the picture, it's clear that this track is one of those rare tunes that can fill dancefloors with moving bodies and minds with unspeakable yearnings... --Arturo Darvishire, Altered Zones
