Cop City/Chill Pillars: "Egyptians"

Cop City/Chill Pillars is a band from Lake Worth, FL. Word on the Internet is that all three members perform in another band called Love Handles, and that they run a bar in town called Club Snooze. They just put out a record called Held Hostage On Planet Chill, and their bloggy word choices start feeling a lot more facetious when you listen to the music they make. Think of Sleep's minimalist deconstruction of heavy metal in the '90s, and you get a pretty idea of what Cop City are doing with madcap '60s garage of the Monks variety. On "Egyptians," ominous, spoken-sung vocals summon us to "the center of the center"; the sounds here are terse, tightly wound, and maybe a little bit evil. --Emilie Friedlander, Altered Zones
