The Field: "Then It's White"

With the newly released The Field "single" (if that's what we're calling free downloads released ahead of LPs these days), Axel Willner has truly outdone himself. Emotionally resonant William Basinski-esque piano loops are grafted seamlessly onto a gently pulsing four on the floor thump. Dubby basslines float in, beats slowly climb in complexity, and the whole thing rises into a bizarrely melancholic dance groove that is clearly trying its best to wrest tears from the corners of your eyes. Instantly familiar yet seemingly brand new, breaking hearts while freezing time effortlessly in its tracks. This music is absolutely gorgeous. --Arturo Darvishire, Altered Zones
