Mo Kolours: "Biddies"

Half-Mauritian percussionist and vocalist Mo Kolours keeps it raw in "Biddies," a track from his recently re-issued EP1: Drum Talking for OMG Vinyl's Sweat Lodge Guru label. Though one can definitely feel the influence of his native isle's Sega music, nostalgia for SV-era Dilla invariably comes to mind. The screwed-not-chopped house beat lays a foundation for the polyrhythmic counterpoint between its rude bassline and babbling vocal samples. They form a cavernous, thoroughly modern dub for Mo to sing over, channelling his myriad influences into a piece that is uniquely groovy. --Matt Sullivan, Altered Zones
