The Plums: "Clamourous"

After 10 years of racket, D.C. area improvisational noise band The Plums will release their debut record, The White LP. Assembled from the band's collection of personal recordings, the album channels their raw, free-form style into a cohesive document without forsaking their preferred creative method. Track two, "Clamourous," is a perfect example: a baleful bass line creeps amongst a primal drum beat and shrill guitar stabs, setting the tone for a dissonant, pulsating monolith of sound by the track's end. It's no wonder that bassist and Pitchfork/The Outdoor contributor Marc Masters wrote a definitive tome on No Wave; this tense, atonal interplay is so sinister that even Mars would quiver. --Matt Sullivan, Altered Zones
