As August starts to slip away, this recently released Super Vacations/Eternal Summers split 7" from Harrisonburg, VA's Funny/Not Funny Records seems perfectly timed. The Mystic Fortress Sessions Vol. 1 captures the dichotomy between Summer's wet, hot days of adventure and its breezy nights of repose. The Super Vacations' "Picnic" is the sound of flying down the 81 in your car with the windows down. The cruel summer sun beats down on the back of our necks while an army of surf guitars begs us to hit the gas. By contrast, Eternal Summers' "On My Honor" finds us relaxing in the grass at twilight while Nicole Yun's earnest vows bring on summer romance flashbacks. --Matt Sullivan, Altered Zones
