o1o: "Moonstalk"

o1o (short for Oakland 1 and Only) is probably better known as AYBEE, the Deepblak label head/producer/visual artist based out of (no points for guessing this one) Oakland, CA. Armon Bazile has always run under a slew of monikers: Orion 70, Afrobatik, Lamaj, Bla Kula and Prof Delacroix-- but o1o has always been reserved for his slower tempo productions. A Futurespective collects seven sultry o1o jams written over the past 10 years that act as an outlet for his polymorphic musical tastes; songs range from dubbed-out jams, to syrupy hip-hop and soul influenced broken beats, all drenched in that seriously deep house groove. On album closer "Moonstalk," o1o's penchant for spacious textures is at its finest. A steady but unhurried beat is stirred through with layers of rich, rounded synths, cultivating the wobbling bass line that drives the track forward. Its dense groove, restrained tempo and clean soundscape lends itself both to the throes of the dancefloor, and the couch-bound moonstalker too. --Daniel Gottlieb, Altered Zones
