This morning via Twitter, British experimental music magazine The Wire announced the launch of its very own Tumblr blog, Sleeves Received. No, it's not another MP3 blog, though it occasionally links back to the publication'sĀ main site. Someone at the magazine had the much cleverer idea of creating a photo archive of LP, CD, DVD, and cassette artwork that never made it into the paper edition-- "gems from the Wire's Mail Bag" that merit attention as standalone works. Visit the site's growing image archive for curios like the above neon pink 7" from Evol (the music insideĀ "attempts to recreate the sound of synthesisers using balloons") and for descriptions that read a bit like captions on a museum wall. Dolphins Into The Future's recent tape trilogy, for instance, is "housed in cream plastic cases, with blue and lilac covershots. Sun-bleached colour scheme with plain blue, unmarked cassettes." --Emilie Friedlander, Altered Zones
