Oakland's Date Palms take us on a journey through scorching desert heat in "Honey Devash," the a-side of their new LP of the same name. The imaginary landscape becomes dense as tense violin strokes remind us of wavering mirages in the distance from intense thirst, the smooth fender rhodes chords posing as a fake oasis. The cruel sun of monophonic synths looms high above the abrasive dunes of dry and distorted bass, enveloping us in a minimalist yet full-bodied analog drone. There's no superfluous noise or tape hiss as filler: Date Palms' fine details speak for themselves. --Matt Sullivan, Altered Zones
