After a handful of EP and single releases, early listeners of San Francisco's Tamaryn might have predicted their debut LP to tread on darker, icier waters. Instead, The Waves breathes with warm confidence and life, glowing on atmospheric shoegaze predecessors like Souvlaki. Each of its nine tracks is radiantly enveloping and allowed to fully blossom the way that she and Rex John Shelverton intended. Although Mexican Summer is set to release the album on September 14th (all formats, only 2000 copies pressed on vinyl), the majority of their 7"s are still widely available, including one from True Panther that features the album closer, "Mild Confusion."
