Wellington Downs: "Grapefruit & Rye"

Matt Sage of Kick Majestic (formerly M Pyres) recently dropped a pair of solo EPs, Granny Smith and Gala Red, under the moniker Wellington Downs. Sage put the EPs together in just the past few months in his basement studio, which he calls Briar Plateaux. The songs are a whirlwind of noisy pop layered with heavy guitars, blown-out percussion, and woozy vocals here and there. Both EPs show Sage exploring familiar psychedelic realms, but these releases have a more spiritual feel than previous works. One notable standout is Gala Red's opener, "Grapefruit & Rye." It's a blistering track that is fast-paced and heavy yet somehow ghostly. I've been pretty eager to hear Kick Majestic's first album since the name change, but this is an awesome treat to hold us over until then. --Jheri Evans, Get Off The Coast
