"I Wanna Take You Out" makes me think that there has to be more than just a coincidental correlation between Part Time's name and their sound. Taken from San Fran-local David Speck's first full-length What Would You Say?, the track sounds like it is the unintentionally great project of a poster-adoring musician who's away from the day job. "I Wanna Take You Out" shares in a similar production aesthetic to Californian contemporaries Puro Instinct, where the obvious quality of the song itself is somehow made to sound sparkly yet gauzy. Like the '80s tropes of neon lights and smoke machines that inspired Speck, the track is lathered in a cheesy gloss that helps make the song's real brilliance shine all the brighter. --Daniel Gottlieb, Altered Zones
