Purling Hiss won us over awhile back when Ripley Johnson of Moon Duo and Wooden Shjips turned us on to them in one of AZ's first guest posts. Since then, the Philly band has released an album on Woodsist, and, earlier this month, an EP onĀ Mexican Summer. The record's second track, "The Hoodoo," is straight-up infectious and sounds like a lost studio session from the '70s reimagined with Sonic Youth nonchalance. The song's simple but sweetly effective "hoodoo" hook is sure to attract listeners who like a little sugar in their psych. --Ric Leichtung, Altered Zones
