Between the unveiling of How to Dress Well's new Just Once 10" and this new missive from Autre Ne Veut, today has me remembering a show they played together in Greenpoint this past Winter, where ANV's notorious stage histrionics culminated in him standing on the alter of a church in a crucifixion pose. No, this Brooklyn crooner is not one for moderation, and "Sweetheart," a vaguely break-up-related number from his forthcoming Body EP, suggests that he has only refined his art of pushing the most solipsistic moments of '90s R&B and radio rock into the realm of the grotesque. Consider the bending, synthetic production and the vocal melody in their own right, however, and you've got all the makings of a stadium anthem-- and a very pretty one at that. --Emilie Friedlander, Altered Zones (via Fact)
