Altered Zones

For the past week, I've been under a thick veil of noisy psychedelia thanks to Pretty Bird's new album, Rules. In the same vein as Foot Village, this Athens-based quartet uses only vocals and percussive sounds in their music. The difference in the two comes from Pretty Bird's frantic sound, causing on a cathartic, meditative feeling. Pop ideals lay buried in storms of vocal chants while blown-out drums meld with pretty much anything else these kids can bang on. --Jheri Evans, Get Off The Coast
