Altered Zones

We’ve been falling hard for the immaculate, slightly maudlin patchwork pop of the Lake District’s James Bennett, aka Mozart Parties. The sprightly arrangement of “Black Cloud” and dulcet, prim n' proper restraint of the vocals make the lingering sense of sadness in cuttingly simple lines like “It’s impossible to break now” all the more real. Marking out Bennett as a handsome new entry in that long, proud lineage of pop songwriters, he treads the tightrope between ecstasy and agony gracefully. --Jack Shankly, Transparent
