Real and relatable, the lyrics of Chicago MC Serengeti’s first solo album explore the everyday elements that help us all become humans. We have no choice but to go through the motions, and it’s our choice in method that informs character. We meet people at strange places, share awkward conversations and somehow manage to form relationships. “Ha Ha” is Serengeti’s painfully normal fantasy about finding love at a Midwest hardware store and in his honesty, we nod our heads. The album-- produced entirely by Yoni Wolf of Why? and Advance Base (aka Owen Ashworth of Casiotone for the Painfully Alone)-- are joined on this track by Australian sisters Hazel and Martha Brown of Otouto, whose birdlike laughter is not aimed at the emcee, but with him. --Yours Truly
