Todd Reynolds has been kicking around New York's high brow for a awhile now, playing with the Bang on a Can ensemble, John Cale, and even Todd Rundgren. A pioneer of the "hybrid musician movement," Reynolds bridges gaps between modern and classical as he lays down samples on his violin and manipulates them on the fly. It's no surprise then that Paul de Jong of The Books took notice of Reynolds' hyper-textural improvised technique and started writing pieces and even lending his video skills for pieces like "Inward Bound" for Reynolds. De Jong's superimposes scenes from black and white film onto evolving rows of swirling dots. as the video counts down to the song's climax, which is marked by a floating brain that twinkles brightly in outer space. --Ric Leichtung, Altered Zones
