Trance Farmers: “Betty Bop”

Scooby Doobie, the latest release from Venice, CA’s Trance Farmers (aka Dayve Samek), doesn’t adhere easily to taxonomy, bouncing between sample collage, Fahey-esque acoustic guitar plucking, and slow, cosmic psych. But standout “Betty Bop” recalls a kind of lo-fi Elvis. Its vocal vamping, jangly guitars, and spurts of feedback are infectious enough to awaken a long dormant fondness for rockabilly in the listener, or maybe one for hip swinging. --Samantha Cornwell, Visitation Rites
