Mist: "Twin Lanes"

We've been keeping a keen eye on John Elliot's movements of late as he builds the Spectrum Spools roster with some of the best synth-inspired musicians out there, from Forma to Fabric. But it is good to see that John, a member of Emeralds and Imaginary Softwoods, has taken some time out from curating to work on Mist, his collaboration with fellow Cleveland, Ohio native Sam Goldberg (Radio People). Mist's third LP, House, is full of the kind of layered and complex textures that put the duo's 2009 self-titled, Amethyst Sunset debut on the map. On album opener "Twin Lanes," synths glitter to life before being swept under by waves of keyboards. The track swells in undulations of sound, but there is a purity and clarity to Mist's work rivalled only by the internal light of a diamond. --Daniel Gottlieb, Altered Zones
