Fabric: "Camera"

Last week, we reported that Editions Mego --the Austrian label for all things brilliant, spaced-out, and electronic -- has launched a new imprint, Spectrum Spools. Spectrum Spools is under the guidance of John Elliot, who will bring all his experience in the field with Emeralds, Imaginary Softwoods, and Outer Space, to releasing “current, past and future electronic music works of the highest quality”. If you scoot over to the Spectrum Spools website, you can get your first listen to what these works will sound like.

The privilege of being "SP 001" goes to Fabric, the solo moniker of Chicago multi-instrumentalist Matthew Mullane. "Camera," below, is one of the shorter cuts on his forthcoming A Sort Of Radiance LP, described as a "suite of compositions which embark on a voyage through darkness of night and the brightness of day." The track flutters into life on the back of a delicate and pulsating rhythm, growing increasingly textured as synths swell and evaporate above and below. Although it clocks in at only three-and-a-half minutes, its warmth and depth is such that you never feel the pressure of time's incessant march. --Daniel Gottlieb, Altered Zones
